Méjico {food}

Even on a Wednesday night it’s crazy busy like a Friday night. The restaurant’s vibe really makes it appear to be the weekend, so Méjico is defiinitely the place to go if you’ve had a tiring, long day!

So as you enter, you either sit at the front on low chairs and tables for drinks and maybe a few nibbles or at the main dining area. This main dining area makes up half of the restaurant, but the back half.

Méjico has 3 different menus, the food, the drinks and the tequila menu.

For each taco dish, only 3 shells are served at a time. You can order extra tacos for $5.50 per taco but would have to get a minimum of 3 before adding. For 3 tacos, you pay $16, altogether for 4 tacos was $21.50.

The tacos are absolutely delicious where the chicken was cooked well, along with the well-balancing flavours from the sauce.

'Chicken Tacos': pan-seared chicken tenderloin topped with chorizo, cucumber and cumin salsa (ones on both ends of the dish) 'Pork Tacos': slow-braised pulled pork shoulder with black bean hummus, aioli and tomatillo salsa (the two middle tacos) all served inside soft shells

I’m not a huge fan of raw seafood. But I was convinced it was time to break the rule. To my surprise, it was delicious! Never have I eaten such fresh seafood in my life! It was nice and cool, freshly made and toped on toasted tostado (biscuit like). This is one of those fresh dishes which incorporates great juicy elements allowing the seafood to come across as well marinated in citrus & chilli. Don’t worry about the chilli, you couldn’t taste a thing. It was stronger in terms of citrusy than spiciness.

'Ceviche of the Day' - market fresh seafood marinated in citrus & chilli served on a toasted tostado $market price (we paid $16 on this day)

Unfortunately, service really let me down. It took us a while to order our food, and after waiting for the ceviche, we realised they never put our order through. Even paying for the bill itself was hard enough. Seems like if we walked out no one would have realised! It’s a bit confusing because the waitresses and waiters wore pink & white stripe tees whereas the front girls wore short, black dresses. I’d say if service improved here, this place would definitely be one of my new favourites.

So while you’re there, why not try some drinks. The bar is huge, offering a great range of alcoholic drinks as well as their special tequila ones. Some good named drinks are those under the ‘Chia Concoctions’ section of the drinks menu including ‘Silk Stocking’ (lychee & ruby grapefruit), ‘White Nectar’ and ‘Afternoon Delight’.

I’d definitely come here again to end my day on a good note with great atmosphere and great food. Definitely a must-try for you all out there, especially the ceviche !
