Messina – Sydney Festival {food}

So The Sydney Festival was held at Hyde Park in Sydney from the 9th January to 26th January, last day being Australia day. On the last day, it was ridiculously packed with a long line waiting to enter at the main entrance.

I bet the main reason why everyone came was for the so called ‘Gelato Messina’ offerings 🙂 … I know that was mine!

There isn’t much of a line nor is there a long wait for your desserts to be ready. Did I say desserts? Yes! Messina is renowned for its famous gelato and their amazing cakes. You really thought they would scrap the whole dessert theme and go for savoury? Of course not!
IMG_5984We tried the ‘So wrong, it’s right‘ gelato which was just as the name suggested. Potato chips dipped in gelato with caramel all over, it definitely was really sweet. I quite enjoyed being the one who didn’t eat the whole thing but only the last few spoonfuls. By then, the caramel had settled with the gelato so it wasn’t too sweet. The hot dog was really one amazing creation. The condiments were quite interesting with passionfruit resembling mustard and raspberry as the tomato sauce, however the passionfruit was indeed super sweet. The gelato sausage was standard but eating gelato within bread was quite different (though I must admit this creation isn’t a new found thing, bread and ice-cream has been around in Asia for quite some time now).

The set up of the shop (or I should say food truck) was really nice with cartoon images upon the walls. This year’s food were indeed very fascinating, I must admit it did definitely meet my expectations of what Messina would really offer but ofcourse, nothing surprising.

Visit the Messina stores for more gelato and special weekly flavours! For further images, check out my previous post on Messina

Have a sweet day !
