This place has got to be one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants, and to top it, it’s also in my local area- Cabramatta ! I’ve been here several times now but couldn’t resist dedicating a blog post for this very restaurant.
Don’t bother looking at the menu. There’s only 1 dish you ‘must‘ try:
the crispy skin chicken with tomato rice.
Tan Viet, located on John St Cabramatta, provides one of the suburb’s best Vietnamese dishes. If you are wondering what else the restaurant offers, you might want to try the ‘avocado shake’ as well as any other dishes which also give you ‘crispy chicken’; because Tan Viet, is known for its one and only – the chicken!
You also have the Vietnamese broken rice with pork chops & shredded pork skin (vietnamese: com tam bi suon cha) which is pretty much a standard dish which you could get at any Vietnamese restaurant, it’s the tradition 🙂
So people tend to ask me, where is Cabramatta. Trust me, it’s not too far. I’ve been travelling to UNSW from this suburb for 4 years so it isn’t a problem if you ask me 🙂
Catch a train from the city to Cabramatta takes about 40-50 mins. Once you get to Cabra station, walk down John St all the way to the end of where all the shops are- you’ll see the house (especially on weekends there tends to be long lines). John St is the main shopping street so you won’t get lost. If you drive, there’s a parking lot right behind the restaurant.

So if you plan to visit Cabramatta, I recommend Tan Viet as your food destination – taste the delicious crispy skin! Well worth it 🙂
